Laser Take 5

Just a small update, I was finally able to finish the first of 6-8 laser treatments on my face. I say take 5 because it took a grand total of 5 scheduled appointments (2 of which I ended up being able to show up for because of the stupid lidocane thing) and in the end, the lidocane did absolutely nothing for me. Oh well. Next one will probably be around the end of december.

  1. Aww, that's too bad about the pain. What kind of anesthetic was it, exactly, EMLA (lidocaine 2.5% + prilocaine 2.5%) or LMX/ELA-MAX (liposomal lidocaine 4%) or straight lidocaine or ?

I've heard that for some people EMLA does nothing but ELA-Max works great, and for others vice versa...

How you apply can make a huge difference in how well it works. IIRC, for EMLA to work properly it's supposed to be applied *at least* an hour ahead of time (up to 5, and the longer the better), *and* be covered with an occlusive dressing (using any old clear plastic wrap) to prevent air getting to it. ELA-Max needs 30 minutes (not sure if longer is better), doesn't need an occlusive dressing.

Google, google, google! Don't just trust your doctors; they're 90% clueless about this, not having been through it.
